Vulcan Seals Participate in Business Fives Charity Football Tournament

On February 15th, 2023, eight of Vulcan Seals’ finest joined forces to take part in the Business Fives Charity Football Tournament in Sheffield. The goal? To raise funds and awareness for the Weston Park Cancer Charity (WPCC), a cause close to the hearts of many at Vulcan Seals, with several employees personally benefiting from the vital work of WPCC.

The tournament brought together various companies from the region, each raising funds for their nominated charity. For Vulcan Seals, this was a chance to give back while participating in some friendly competition.

The Vulcan Seals team

Representing our company were Rob Pearson, Luke Clarke, Lewis Swann, Matt Harrison, Ryan Briddock, Jordan Voyse, Jamie Butt, and Elliott Groves. They arrived at Goals Sheffield with high hopes, eager to compete and support WPCC in the process.

A rocky start

Our team’s journey to glory had a challenging beginning. The first match against Gravitate Accounting started off poorly, though the team showed resilience and nearly turned the game around. Just as Vulcan Seals chairman, Gerry Quinn, arrived to support the squad, a pivotal moment occurred—Rob Pearson played a beautiful through ball to Lewis Swann, only for Lewis to miss the opportunity, much to the dismay of the watching crowd. Gravitate secured a 2-0 victory.

Tough matches ahead

Close but difficult matches followed against Whittam Cox Architects and Enzygo, with Vulcan Seals narrowly missing out on wins due to a mix of fitness, missed chances, and some questionable referee decisions. These setbacks saw our team move into the lower bracket of the knockout stage.

Victory in the knockout stage

In the L16 stage, Vulcan Seals faced Tribepad and finally found their stride. The team scored an early goal and maintained the pressure, coming out as 2-1 winners and advancing to the quarterfinals.

A quarterfinal exit

Despite their best efforts, the quarterfinals proved to be too great a challenge. By this point, even the team’s stalwart Rob Pearson admitted he was “feeling his age.” While our team’s run ended here, their participation was far from in vain.

A successful day for charity

Overall, the tournament raised an impressive £3,400 for charity, with Vulcan Seals contributing over £1,000 towards that total. It was a fantastic day for everyone involved, with great camaraderie and a shared sense of purpose in supporting WPCC.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who donated and supported the cause. We are proud to have played our part in helping Weston Park Cancer Charity continue its vital work.
