Vulcanised ‘O’-rings are specialised, custom-made ‘O’-rings for exclusive applications. They are crafted from the extruded cord, allowing the supply of any specified inside diameter, starting from 180mm. They provide a cost-effective and fast solution when a moulded ‘O’-ring is unavailable.
Vulcanised ‘O’-rings are produced using a 45° scarf, joined through a vulcanising process providing a barely visible seamless join, which replicates the overall extruded core strength. Manufactured to order, on short lead times and available in various
cross section sizes, material grades and hardness options.
Vulcanised ‘O’-rings are available from 180mm internal diameter with no theoretical maximum diameter and are available,
for exclusive applications, in all common cross sections from 1.78mm up to and including 15.00mm. Vulcan Seals supplies the following materials as standard, with other hardness options and elastomer grades available on request.
• Nitrile – 70/80/90Sh A
• FKM – 75/90Sh A
• EPDM 70Sh A
• Red Silicone 70Sh A (white is also available upon request)
• HNBR 70/90Sh A
Vulcanised ‘O’-rings are joined using a 45° scarf joint to provide the maximum area for surface vulcanisation. The strength of the join achieved by the vulcanising process is examined for abnormalities by slight pull and twisting at the joint area along with computer-controlled tensile testing to assess the strength of the base cord.
Please note: extreme bending of the joint is not recommended, as it does not undergo such bending during use.
