Vulcan Seals American Coding System

For the American market, Vulcan Seals operates a common American coding system for a simple ordering process.

Following the standard “PS” coding format, common in the North American market, simply use "VS" in place of "PS".

Vulcan Seals Part Coding System Overview

The Vulcan Seals part coding system for mechanical seal components and assemblies is unique to our brand. In the American mechanical seal market, there has been an industry-wide part coding system used by manufacturers and end-users for many years. Our goal is to make identifying and ordering mechanical seals as simple as possible, so we have also incorporated the commonly accepted American market codes into our systems.

The American part coding system is a simple, non-descriptive serial number. If the serial number you are looking to cross over is not listed, please contact us.

Descriptive Coding System for Seal Style and Materials

A standardized American descriptive coding system is used to define the seal style and materials. The seal style is represented by a single character for the rotary style and a numeric character for the stationary style.

For example, a “Type C-1” would convert to a Type U11 rotary with a Type 11 stationary ring.

The mechanical seal materials coding system is a string of five characters representing the elastomer, rotary face, seal body, stationary face, and seal spring materials, in that order. The key for these characters is provided below this introduction text. If you are unsure about any cross-over to a Vulcan Seals part code, please contact us for assistance.
